On carrying out some research of contemporary Moldovan artists in readiness to stimulate the young people I have some wonderful work. How about this perspective of "The Kingdom of Moldova (1995) by Mark Verlan, would anyone like to hazard a guess for the location of London and Cardiff?
I love the symmetry of this work "The Mill of Cernoleuca" (1967) by Igor Vieru.
What a sense of motion there is in this work!
The work of this artist is some of the best I have ever seen of landscape - take a look for yourself - the colours are so vivid and clear with such a strong sense of perspective.
Again another stunning seasonal piece, just an amazing use of white in the blossom to bring out the foreground
Spring in My Country (1960) by Mihai Petric
"Delirium" is the title of this piece actually one of three painted by Simion Zimisa in 1994 alongside another similar series entitled "Mechanical Music" I realise these were painted a year after my visit in 1993 when I was very aware through dialogue that many were very confused by the social changes taking place as the Republic left it's most recent roots in Soviet Communism
"After the Rain" is a 1908 very impressionist in content of the Mikhail Larionov the artist who is now portrayed on the 2001 coins of the Trienstria republic recognising his birth in Tiraspol and being one of the most prominent of all Moldovian artists, with his works being displayed in galleries all round the globe as he introduced the Rayonism movement in art - the first creation of near abstract art in Russia.
This is to found in the National Gallery in Edinburgh
probably originated as an Impressionist landscape that Larionov reworked as a Rayonist composition.
Another artist from Moldova that I am appreciating is the work by Vasole Didic, shown here is "Exit " 1998, is full of movement and questioning, in the same vein as the work of the Ukrainian artist Markovich, that influenced my work for the AS course.
Finally I love this piece by Vasile Mosanu which is titled "Worshippers of the Mystic Fire" (1992) and could represent so many images related to pentecost and is very striking piece of work.
These are just a few pieces of Moldovian art I have picked out as I look to offer the young people a taste of art and hope some may find their own spark of creativity.
It will be interesting to see, but there has certainly some fine Moldovan artists!
The final touches are now being put to the banner being made by the youth at the Riverside Youth Club. This has been the work of boys with learning disability that I help to support on a weekly basis.
The pictures are of Riverside and have been printed on using a interesting process that the boys were fully involved in
